Poker Trends
Poker has indeed become very popular in just a short while. In fact, the total number of players all over the world has been estimated to have increased threefold over the past few years and though some people are saying that the popularity of poker is bound to wane some time soon, only a few people are buying it. Poker’s Popularity Has Not Waned Nobody was able to predict that poker will become this popular all. Strangely enough, even with all the increase in the number of people playing poker all over the world, some people are claiming that poker is actually losing its popularity. These claims are caused by the supposedly decreasing audience share of the televised world poker tournament. Poker enthusiasts counter that in this case, the variable used to make the claim is not valid, that although the number of people has lessened for some popular tv poker shows, the number of shows has also increased so the viewers are spread out a bit more. In fact the additional poker programs on tv might be a truer indication of the growing number of poker tv viewers. Another argument for the growing popularity of poker is the increased number of poker rooms under construction in casinos. In fact the casinos are handling too many poker players that you cannot get into a tournament unless you have registered and paid for it a few days earlier. This is also true with online poker gaming as online casinos are finding it hard to service all the people who want to play poker over the internet. Indeed, it is quite surprising that with the huge number of people playing poker on any single day, poker television programs can still find people who are willing to stay and watch the game rather than play. Some Reasons for Poker’s Popularity Perhaps the main reason for its popularity is the advent of online poker and televised games. Televised poker games led to a lot of people being exposed to the game of poker. Online poker games offered people a relatively easy way of beginning to learn and play poker. One other reason for poker’s popularity today is its minimal barrier to entry. Anybody can become popular because of the game, not like some professional sports where the fans cannot even hope to compete with the sports stars. With poker, all you need is the right strategy and enough luck and you just might find yourself part of the professional circuit. With poker, anything is possible and the rewards are boundless. Poker in the Future Yes, poker is still growing more popular today and its rise is far from over. In fact, with all the poker television programs today, many teenagers cannot wait to become of legal age so that they can begin playing this game, too. Some casinos are even sacrificing their slot machine space just to give more space to the poker playing area. This alone attests to the fact that poker is a growing industry that will continue to expand even more. |
