Poker Bluffing Tips
Bluffing is one of the twists in the game of poker. This brings in a certain element to poker that counterbalances the rules of probability when it comes to the cards dealt to the players. As bluffing is a human factor in the game, one must not depend on this tactic, especially in important gamed, unless the player has mastered it. Of course bluffing is a game played against the probability of the other players recognizing your bluff for what it is, but with a little insight and some tips, you just might find a way to integrate bluffing into your game.
How to Bluff Offline
Bluffing is the key element that makes the game of poker a true game of skill. Because of bluffing, you can either win more when you have a winning hand because other players might see your raising the pot as a bluff or just plain win even when you have a bad hand. Because of these, the effects of bluffing constantly changes on the table depending on the outcome of each successive hand.
If you always raise the bet when you have a good hand and win, this will result in the other players going for the fold when you bluff again later in the game. Bluffing and losing, on the other hand will lead other players to call your bluffs from then on. To make full use of this technique, you must know how to balance its use, never showing the other players a pattern on which they can base their decisions.
Of course, you must also be aware of your mannerisms when bluffing; most people have certain mannerisms which are recognized by other players. So don’t twitch, don’t move around, don’t smile, don’t sweat and don’t make the other players notice a recurring pattern of expressions. Make your expressions implacable, or use your expressions to help fool other players to believe what you want them to believe. Combine control over your gestures with timing and the other players will never be able to tell when you have a good hand or when you’re merely bluffing.
How to Bluff Online
Of course, in an online poker game, you won’t have visual signs to use to bluff your opponents or to decide whether your opponents are bluffing or not. Because of this, you must learn how to read other signals or signs that can give you an idea of what the other players’ cards really are. Reading your opponents is therefore limited to analyzing their betting, checking, raising and folding patterns.
On your part, you should be careful not to have an obvious pattern for your opponents will recognize this and use it to their advantage. Remember, too, that the more your opponents are, the better the chances that there is someone who will call your bluff. Your online bluffing strategy would also depend on the type of poker game you are playing; some types like the hi/lo gives players better chances of winning because of the split pot. Thus, players are more inclined to ride out the bluff than to fold. Lastly, know when to fold. Not every hand that you will get will has a chance of winning, so know when to cut your losses and know when to strike.
