Online Poker: The Real Deal Online poker has gone up another level. It’s a free for all out there with online poker tournaments where online poker professionals, addicts and wannabes compete for the big prize. Online poker tournaments are like poker Olympics where race, nationality and geographical location do not matter. Just a burning desire to play poker and a big enough bankroll is enough qualification. What to expectOnline poker tournaments take many forms and guises. Some online poker tournaments require a registration fee while some don’t. The prizes can range from the accumulated registration fees as grand prize to big credits for more online poker gaming. In online poker tournaments, only one can take home the big prize so there must be a way to eliminate the weaker players. A tournament may begin with lots of full tables and play will commence as usual in each table. The weakest player gets eliminated from each table so most tables get vacant seats. The organizers will shuffle the players so that each will be playing at a full table once more. This will go on indefinitely until only a few players are left playing at just one table. In some online poker tournaments, elimination takes place differently. A player must play at his original table until he’s eliminated or until he has trounced the others. When only one player remains at each of the tables, the winners will be reassigned to compete with the other remaining players. At his new table, a player must stay and play until he gets eliminated or he wins again. The new set of winners will again compete until such time that the remaining poker players can fit at one table. The winner of the final table becomes the grand champion of the tournament. What to look out forIn online poker tournaments, you should always have a clear sight of your objective and how you are going to attain it. The objective is obviously taking home the big prize. The way to attain this goal is just as obvious, which is having an unbeatable strategy. Remember that in online poker tournaments, you may be playing with the professionals who make a living out of playing poker. Be sure to choose your tournament with care. Choose one which matches your skills and capabilities. Of course, this is not to say that you cannot aspire to join other, more high stakes games. This is just to caution you against aiming for the moon when you’re not sufficiently ready to do so. Joining a game where you’re surely outclassed is tantamount to giving your money away. It is advisable to work your way through the smaller tournaments first before you join the big leagues. This will give you lots of opportunities to learn from other players and get a fair measure of your strengths and weaknesses without losing much money in the process. These smaller online poker tournaments will give you valuable experience when you finally join the major online poker tournaments. |
