| The Feminine Side of Poker: Women in Professional Poker |
|
The Feminine Side of Poker: Women in Professional Poker Women can now be found across top male poker players in world poker tournaments. What a totally refreshing way to assert their equality with the male sex, huh? There is something that men in general cannot say is true about these women poker players and that’s “You can always read what a woman is thinking.” But there’s no reason for you take my word for it. You can try watching any of the following renowned women in one of their tournaments and you’ll see what I mean. Clonie GowenCycalona Gowen is her full name and she’s your typical all-American beauty with the title Ms. Teen McAlester under her belt. She was also your typical high school jock with an exceptional record in women’s basketball and a good showing in high jump. Not so typical though is the fact that she is one of the few famous female personalities in the world of professional poker. She was one of the top ten players at the World Poker Tour Costa Rica Classic which led to her joining the World Poker Tour Ladies Night in 2003 where she was declared the winner. Now, she is still active in the poker industry. She’s an active member of Full Tilt Poker, a contributor of Bluff Magazine, and a consultant for the United States Poker Association. Jennifer HarmanJennifer Harman has an unimposing height and physiognomy. She rather fits the description “cute” to a t. However, Jennifer has proven time and again that she is more than just cute; she is actually one of the poker sharks who can eat you for breakfast without any difficulty.Jennifer is one of the world’s most renowned poker players of all times and she is also one of the most successful with winnings over a million dollars in just one tournament. Her love for poker, acquired when she was still young, has still not waned and she continues to dazzle the audience with her skills. Annie DukeMaybe, her training in cognitive psychology has something to do with her skills in poker. Or maybe, it is the fact that she learned to play poker from her brother, the professional poker player Howard Lederer. Whatever the reason, nobody can dispute the fact that Annie Duke is a woman to reckon with in poker. She is very perceptive and hard to fool; this was proven when she matched the skills of an FBI agent in spotting lies. She doesn’t have the top spot in women professional poker but she is the most successful one so far. To date, she has earnings of over three million dollars from playing poker that no other woman on record can match. Kathy LiebertOne of the World Series winners, Kathy Liebert is a business and finance degree holder who deserted her corporate career for professional poker. She does not allow emotions decide her strategy; and it seems she’s doing something right for Kathy is now one of the most successful money players in the world of women professional poker. |
